I agree with George Siemens view on distance education and communication is rapidly changing. When calling to talk to people locally or long distance it is now cheaper than it was in the past. The voice quality is much better and clearer. I feel that communication has evolved because you can talk from a computer, you can instant message someone overseas without paying for the talk time, you can use the computer as a telephone and you can use the internet.
The cell phone and the computer are the most powerful means of communication and they are used more than any other means of communication. You have programs such as instant messaging, social websites, chats, blogs, and wikis among others that allow you to communicate from anywhere.

I agree about cell phones being the "most powerful means of communication". However, don't you think we are way too connected, that we lose sight of life to be outstanding at twitter or facebook or cellulars?
ReplyDeleteWe are too connected at times. I often see or hear people communicating via cell phone and/or computers during dinner, family gatherings, shopping trips, driving, and even during restroom breaks. I am beginning to wonder if people are going to know how to interact with one another face-to-face in about 10 years. Our current way of communicating no longer includes gestures, volume, tone, or eye contact and therefore, we may lose the ability to communicate effectively face-to-face.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we are too connected. The type of connection that we have today is a form of informal connnectivity. I would also like to comment on what Crystal stated. I understand what she is saying about interaction and face-to-face communication, but I will also like to say that as all other things change, so will how we communicate. We adjust and adopt varioius other technology so why not how we communicate. I think that we still have volume, tone, and gestures when we communicate, it's just not the norm, but an advanced form of communication.
